Geisha in Restaurant

We've slipped out of the Yoshiwara momentarily to follow a group of geisha from the Yoshiwara who got a call to entertain at a private party in the famous Kawachiro restaurant in the nearby area of present-day Ueno. Having their origins among the odoriko dancers and shamisen players of Edo who sometimes engaged in unlicensed prostitution on the side, geisha developed into professional entertainers whose arts did not usually include the sexual. A persistent patron, however, might persuade a geisha to exceed her official job description.
